Heartland Shepherds was founded to preserve the qualities found in the healthy, heavy-boned, and family-oriented Shepherds that many generations have come to love.
Located in Missouri, our dogs are raised in our family-with our kids, other pets, and the freedom to roam acreage and hiking trails. They are our family protectors and our family members. Trusted with children, proven service animals, and some even as pet therapy dogs-the we strive to produce puppies that truly encompasses the best qualities of the Shepherd breeds. We breed both King and German Shepherds, each meeting the standards to only produce puppies which better their breed. We utilize genetic testing, hip & joint testing, and pedigree research to select healthy, sound dogs for our litters.
While most are familiar with the German Shepherd, at times we do produce King Shepherds. A rare breed, King Shepherd dogs are a result of specific, planned breedings. This unique breed provides families with intelligent, protective, gentle giants that are hard to find in other pure shepherd breedings.
Our Shepherds are bred for specific, desirable characteristics. While we primarily breed the traditional German Shepherd Dog, the King Shepherd also incorporates other breeds such as the Alaskan Malamute and Shiloh Shepherd into the bloodlines.
Our initial foundation litter of Kings was selected from high quality German Shepherd and Shiloh Shepherd bloodlines to give families a healthy, well-rounded family member to add to their home.
Our AKC German Shepherds are bred with health & temperament as our #1 priority. We genetically clear all potential sires & dams, as well as hip/elbow testing to ensure our dogs are able to produce healthy puppies for a lifetime.
Our Shepherds are large, if not, giant dogs. They make great family members and protectors yet they are NOT aggressive. Sensitive dogs, they need to be part of a family and have a purpose as such.
They love kids and adults alike, and are active! They love being a part of anything the family does. These Shepherds will not do well isolated in a backyard away from their humans, as they are a social and family-oriented breed.
While they need to have plenty of exercise-whether running, hiking, fetch with the kids-they also love to binge on Netflix with their humans.
